MSM Won’t Shut Up About Trump’s Gun Repeal: Here’s What You Need to Know

Many of us have tired of the term “fake news,” but there’s simply no other way to say it. The lame-stream media have gone above and beyond to spread as much bogus hokum about the current administration as they possibly can.

In days of yore, journalism was something that was held in high regard because of the grace and honesty with which reporters acquitted themselves. Objectivity and integrity were valued over personal bias, and facts were routinely checked and then re-checked to be certain of their veracity.

Today, all of that journalistic integrity and commitment to the truth has been tossed asunder in favor of the juicy scoop. Fair and balanced was traded for fast and scandalous.

Look at any mainstream publication today and you won’t find fact, you’ll find folly. Instead of reading about the political achievements of our president, your eyes will be glued to a flashy headline about alleged dalliances with an adult entertainer or imaginary debauchery with Russian prostitutes.

And even when these stories have been clarified or, in some cases, completely debunked, liberal television personalities like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon continue to perpetuate these mudslinging myths months after the fact.

Turn on your TV during the late night block and you’ll undoubtedly hear utterances about the president’s pee-pee fetish or his orange skin. While all of these infantile “jokes” (if you can even call something so tired and contrived funny) are more a weak and petty nuisance than anything that could be construed as real news, there are other subjects that the liberal media won’t stop talking about.

One of these subjects is Trump’s repeal of Obama-era gun legislation. It started in February of last year when the Left began blasting the Commander-in-Chief for making it “easier” for the mentally ill to buy firearms.

What was most infuriating about these claims—besides the obvious lack of proper research or fact-checking—was how widespread they became. In the past, one would expect to find absurd allegations like this in a tabloid magazine or alternative press, but this time, publications as established as Time ran the story.

Gun control is always a hot topic among Democrats and their cheerleaders, and 2017 was a particularly busy year for those looking to encroach on Americans’ Second Amendment rights. Emboldened by not one but two deadly mass shootings within a month of each other, the liberals rushed to introduce multiple bills to restrict gun ownership and outright ban AR-15 accessories.

This legislation which was introduced, in part, by Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass) in October has since stalled because cooler heads prevailed. But the bleating of the Left has not stalled, not for a second. And even now, in the New Year, you can still hear the talking heads braying about how the Leader of the Free World is allowing off-the-wall wingnuts to purchase assault rifles and the like.

Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Here’s what most people don’t realize. This bill which Trump rescinded does not permit those who have been diagnosed with acute personality disorders or psychopathic tendencies to legally obtain guns.

On the contrary, it simply repeals regulation that would enable the Social Security Administration to revoke a person’s Second Amendment rights based on whether the person in question receives disability for a mental impairment that keeps them from working or if he or she “[uses] a representative payee to help manage their benefits.”

This very clearly applies to individuals who suffer from severe anxiety, clinical depression or cognitive impairment. No mention is made of individuals who have been labeled criminally insane or inclined towards harming others or themselves.

As the Washington Examiner‘s David Freddoso pointed out at the time, the repeal of the original rule “doesn’t allow people to buy guns who have been properly adjudicated by a court of law as mentally ill or unstable.”

The liberal media failed to realize that, just as they failed to note the support that the repeal had from autism advocacy groups who feel that mental handicaps should not prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing tactical gear and self-defense weapons.

And they weren’t the only ones; civil rights advocates, such as the Association of Mature American Citizens, the Arc of the United States and the American Civil Liberties Union, were among those who came out to espouse the change.

Of course, it’s not the first time that the Left wing press has spread falsehoods about the president and his administration. They’ve accused him of not taking notes at a G7 summit, distorted the facts about his tax-cut plan, made up stories about him signing an executive order to cancel Saturday Night Live because of Alec Baldwin’s impersonation of the president, and fabricated details about transcripts pertaining to collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

These are but a few of many, many examples of the press painting the president as a petty, criminal pseudo-politician. Snopes has even posted a full list of the fake news that’s been proven to be absolute hogwash.

Readers need to be aware that the “news” they’re reading is less news and more a partisan hatchet job aimed at getting soft-headed subscribers to drink the proverbial Kool-Aid. As any internet troll can tell you, it’s much easier for them to hurl insults at Trump than attempt to understand the accomplishments he has made despite the obstinacy of the Dems.
